Before Coffee: Land of Ice and Fire

May 16, 2016 § Leave a comment

My friends in Toronto say it snowed and hailed there this weekend. Snow and hail in the middle of May, while the Fort MacMurray fire still burns.

The George RR Martin jokes are just too easy. And probably not politically correct, given that some 80,000 people lost everything they own and are still displaced.

One heartwarming story has risen out of the Fort MacMurray fire, though. Remember all of the Syrian refugees that Canada graciously and enthusiastically took in? They’re barely settled, and yet they’re raising money for the Fort MacMurray refugees.

I’m going to try to remember that the next time the news makes me think that everyone is awful.

Happy Monday.
