I live. Which amazes me, given the past year and a half.

“2018 will be a year of repair, of redirection, of rebuilding. Changing the landscape.” That’s from my New Year’s Day post, but I had no idea how much the landscape would change; eight days later, I was laid off.

Before Coffee: What You Wish For

May 3, 2016 § Leave a comment

I’ve got a lot on my plate this week. Most of it is meat and potatoes, but there are a few cookies. (No, they’re not oatmeal raisin.) Fun stuff, because I’m lucky enough to have a day job where I get to have fun once in a while.

I’m a marketing communications specialist. Which is a fancy way of saying “writer,” when you boil it down to the bones. I write papers about the software development industry, ebooks about our products, blog posts, little bits for social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Facebook, and something called Xing, which is like German LinkedIn; I haven’t quite figured it out yet).

So I write all day, then I go home and write.

When I went off to college eons ago, I told my parents I wanted to make my living as a writer. I rubbed the lamp and spoke the words, and poof, I write for a living.

You won’t hear me complaining about my job; I got what I wished for. But next time, I’m specifying “novelist.”
